A family oriented practice centered around the “cornerstone” of friendship, trust and respect was no accident. Dr. Tara Federly and Dr. Amy Petersen have been best friends for over 40 years and their story involves the foundation for how Cornerstone Pediatrics and Family Allergy became a reality.
Growing up, Dr. Federly and Dr. Petersen both knew they wanted to be doctors from an early age. Like most children, they played doctor, but as young girls they took it a step further by recording videos of themselves providing advice on nutrition and exercise to promote a healthy lifestyle!
Having grown up together in the Des Moines area, they continued to pursue their dreams by studying pre-med at Luther College in Decorah. During Medical School each of them discovered their own passion and honed in on their individual pursuits. After Medical School, they started their careers in different cities, atmospheres and fields of medicine. Their diverse experiences and backgrounds proved to be the perfect compliments for one another as they made the decision to start Cornerstone Pediatrics and Family Allergy.
Throughout their professional careers they never lost touch with each other. They rejoiced together in celebrating each other’s marriages, the birth of children and many professional milestones. They also comforted each other through the loss of loved ones and other personal challenges. In short, they supported one another and always held onto the dream of joining forces and having their own practice one day. Their foundation of friendship, trust and respect ultimately brought them together to make their dream come true and Cornerstone Pediatrics and Family Allergy was born.
